Version 1.8.2 Released

You can download the 1.8.2 version. The user interface has become much more mature:

The areas which have been improved most are related to the text box and text line object. The text styles can be applied directly from the ribbon, by choosing in a gallery of available styles. The same is true for the fonts.

If you need to define your own styles, simply click on the styles tab, then select either the paragraph or the character style sub-tab and copy/modify or create your styles.

I've also added support for WMF/EMF (Windows Metafiles) import. Selecting such an image when drawing an image object will work; internally, the image is converted to a bitmap with the WMF/EMF specified DPI resolution. This can lead to jaggy images when printing.

Hi Pierre!

Sorry, I've been a little lost lately, with a lot of work to do. I'll still end the FreeImage stuff sometime

Well, there is one problem with the latest binaries. Namely it doesn't create a shortcut in the Start menu, at least on my system. I'll reinstall later to confirm this.

Anyway, thumbs up. This program is looking much more promising (and usable) than many "standard" programs out there. Just a tip: if you make inserting bitmaps easier, you might get some points.

The problem is by design: the current version of Creative Docs .NET does not create any shortcut in the Start menu. We will consider a better installer when we switch to .NET 2.0 this summer.

I'd be glad to get your ideas about making the insertion of bitmaps easier. Would you like to be able to insert them by simple drag and drop from the Explorer? Any suggestions are welcome.

Just wondering if it is possible to use .NET 2.0 at the moment? I have 2.0 installed, and it seems the installer won't let me install the software? is there backward compatiblity issues? or should this still work?

Running Creative Docs .NET version 1.8.x on .NET 2.0 should technically be feasible. The problem is that the installer currently uses a hardwired piece of logic to determine if .NET is installed. And it won't recognize 2.0 as a valid framework.

So, if you have access to a PC with .NET 1.1 installed, you should be able to install Creative Docs .NET there. You can then simply copy the "Creative Docs .NET" folder from "Program Files" over to the .NET 2.0 machine. It should work...

Creative Docs .NET 2.0 will be .NET 2.0 based, but we have no precise planning for that yet. It will probably be released in summer 2006.
